What Are You Thankful For?

(Each month I write an article in the Marion City Schools Community Newspaper sharing some of the great things going on at Rushmore Academy. Here is my most recent addition.)

November! The month of Thanksgiving! I just read a blog in which the blogger planned to write each day about one thing he is thankful for up to Thanksgiving Day. Sounds like a good way to reflect. Sounds like a good way to focus on the many things in our lives which truly are a blessing. Sounds like something we could do much more of instead of just having this kind of focus in November.

Like many people, I am thankful for many things. I am thankful for an amazing family. My beautiful wife! Our three amazing sons! Our two beautiful daughters-in-law! I am thankful for good health. I am thankful to be able to do the things I enjoy doing, go to the places I enjoy visiting, listening to the music I enjoy hearing, reading the books I enjoy reading, enjoying a beautiful sunset or the multitude of stars dotting the heavens on a clear morning. I am thankful for a community which is “home”. I am thankful for a school system which has provided so much more to me than just a job. I am thankful for my many, many, many dear friends. I am thankful for all the experiences which have allowed me to grow as a person. I am thankful for my students and athletes, each who has taught me so much more than they will ever know. I am thankful for having each of them enrich my life in ways beyond description. I am thankful for the dedicated Staff of Rushmore Academy and our students who walk through these doors of opportunity each day.

I am always suspended in awe when I take the time to reflect upon my many blessings and good fortune. I think what humbles me more and more as I hopefully mature is the realization and acceptance of how little I have contributed to having so many of these blessings in my life. What a gift living is! May you be able to take some time this Thanksgiving Season to reflect upon and appreciate all your many blessings.

Please mark your calendars! Tuesday, November 22, 2011 will be our Third Annual Rushmore Academy Thanksgiving Pancake Breakfast! We will be serving delicious pancakes and sausage from 7:00AM-10:30AM. Please plan to stop for a visit and a great breakfast!
