Falling Leaf

I read recently something. It went kind of like this. If you catch a falling leaf before it hits the ground, you hold in your hand a miracle! This leaf was born and died without ever touching the Earth. I have to imagine there are not many cycles of birth to death which can claim this? That in itself is a miracle. Catching a falling leaf before it hits the ground is equally miraculous. To do so is not as easy as you would think.

There is something more to this. What do you think?

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina , its 5:27am. I woke at 4:10, tossed and turned until about 4:40, got out of bed, peed, turned the coffee on...

and you are on my mind
and I can't shake what has happened
and all I hear is a scream in my head
                                                                      Why? Why? Why?

the pain and confusion will run deep
long after the blood stains are attempted to be washed away
the experts and pundits and ratings-hungry news people
will attempt to explain through tired words and labels
what can not be explained

horror and evil have no names
explanations are nothing but folly
it is their images burned into our minds and hearts
which no tears no matter how many
will ever allow us to forget

why couldn't you speak to us evil shooter
do you see the whole world mourns what you have done
you spoon fed yourself all the lies
paid over and over and over again
generation after generation keeping each alive

come on!
we can not any longer be part of the lies
it must be said
                                                                      RACISM
                                                                             IS
                                                                       ALIVE
in our good ole
                                                                       U. S. of A.

I sit along the water's bank
our collective tears raising the tide
it too is now a summer evening
just before dark
maybe tonight all sorrows can be tucked to bed
in hopes of capturing a few fleeting hours of peace

a kingfisher is proudly perched staring back
reflecting the setting sun's golden rays
Charleston you stand up
                                                                     MIGHTY
                                                                     STRONG
                                                                     ALIVE

you nine saints are crying out a collective plea
evil and hatred and ingrained racism and bigotry will not win out
victory is ours and peace is the healing balm to all
willing to see the glorious light of creation
possessed in every single life

do you hear Charleston cry for us
do you hear the crying out
the collective plea
do you see the light of creation
possessed in every single life
                                                                      IN
                                                                      EVERY
                                                                      SINGLE
                                                                      LIFE

Somewhere Out There "Supertramp" Lives

We understood the secrets that haunted each of us
Knowing so well, before you die you must live
You think you know me and I know you
Such can not be more distant from the truth
Myth and reality each run a course
Careening out of control as only life does
The two come ever so close but never do touch
How misunderstood is the nature of being human
To be out among nature in the sanctuary of the wild is where safety is found
Inside a house so often called a home dirty secrets can be hidden
Have you ever seen the scattered thousand pieces
A faded jigsaw puzzle minus one missing corner
No matter how many times you try
The picture is never complete of how things are
God, it's OK to run and hide and play in the leaves
What we are told in childhood never stays the same
No matter how much we are told the past never exists in the present
The things that cost the least bring the greatest joy
Why would you want anything - anyone owning you
Do we read the words written in letters and songs
Especially what is said between the lines
Have the guts to do what is always right
Honey bees swarm and buzz about the hive
As perspectives swarm and buzz each from a point of view
Just what is the worst feeling you can ever have
Why do we see ourselves in others when being us is all there is
Myth and reality running a wild course
Side by side ever so close
But like us and them - you and me - they never touch
It's beautiful, peaceful, wild, quiet
Living life and being you
A purist pushes as closes to the abyss
Searching always for peace, reality and honesty
And we all miss the good left behind
But bridges burned are never easy to cross
Do we trap ourselves in leaving us all alone
Bound for glory is a personal journey
I'm here where I am and it is a serious state
This thing we call living - we call life
We build our castles our fortresses they are safe
Sorrow and pain melt like a spring-mountain snow
Truth in the end is all we have
No matter what the verdict somewhere truth is
We all go back to places we once knew
Often to stoke the flame of emotions carried in our tattered rucksack
We sit around an open fire the rising smoke dances with the stars
Together myth and reality - us and them - you and me
No words spoken the deep dark night speaks loud and clear
We know we have arrived and all that is
Somewhere out there I always will live
