A Little of This, A Little of That: Thoughts While Running

Go ahead Marion, Ohio...take a bow! Today I'm guessing Marion, Ohio is the only place in the world in which it is an "unofficial official holiday".

"What?", You may ask. "There has to be at least one other place in the world celebrating something today?"

How true I am sure that is! However, I would hedge there is no place celebrating their very own Popcorn Festival!

And whereas last night's annual Popcorn Festival Parade most likely had about 200 more floats than what was really needed, and I can not imagine anywhere having more "Miss Teeny Queen" this or that, this parade brings the very best out about small town America! Thousands of people lining the streets to shout and cheer, to wave at the over-populated masses riding upon a favorite float, cheering for high school marching bands, standing respectfully young and old, some with more ink on places than one can not imagine as the American Flag moves past. I don't know, every year as I  witness this gathering, I feel I am transfixed somewhere between Northern Exposure and The Wonder Years.

Oh well, I like it!

We all know the elections are fast approaching. Oh don't we know! Well this thought occurred to me as I ran past one too many yard signs this morning that are strategically placed to show one's support for this or that candidate.

I am proposing an "grassroots" initiative for this election in which no one running for any office is elected who opts to have plastered on their signs, billboards, pamphlets, or any other campaign material their highly over-used childhood nickname such as "Bud", "Skip", "Skipp", "Rock", "Tip", "Tipper", "Mac", "Tex", "Scooter", "Skipper", oh what the hell, "Goose", "Maverick". The same would be applied to any candidate opting to be referred to as "Frankie", "Tommy", or "Joey"!

I do not know about you, but I want to see elected a person capable of governing, not a childhood playmate!

Now I must say I have plenty of friends who go by these nicknames or examples of names in which they still use the "ie" or "y" ending, and I love and respect them greatly! I am just calling for those "yins" going by such names wishing to be elected to stay out of politics for a bit.

If you have read this far, time for a little game. You see, I am fully enjoying this "unofficial official holiday" with a day off. Scary! I have extra time on my hands!

On many of my runs I listen to music on my "Shuffle". Passes the time! Eases the pain! So as one who likes to stir up creativity, here is what I thought I would do. I will give a part of a song. You need to add whatever thoughts or ideas come to mind. One rule I suppose, keep it classy, whatever that means! Go ahead and post!

Let's break it down and see what happens!

Case Study 1: "Stand aside from the bar if you haven't come to drink......."
Case Study 2: "She's a lady, she is mine......."
Case Study 3: "But you know, deep down, I'm kind of tempted........"
**************

Have fun! Live life to the fullest!
