Twins

An amazing thing having twins! Double the pleasure! Double the fun! Double trouble! Well not really! The only real challenge we faced as Kyle and Andy began to become mobile, agile, and hostile is that they never took off in the same direction.

Little did we know this was an indicator of how things would be for what is now 26 years!

I still remember so vividly that day Kim showed up at school holding those ultra-sound images and a smile that still melts my heart proclaiming, “We’re having twins!” Legend has it I turned an ashy white, stumbled down the hallway to a fellow teacher’s room, also a real estate agent and said to him, “I need a bigger house!”

When Kyle and Andy were born, we made a conscience effort to raise them as individuals. Thusly, we stayed away from names which rhymed or began with the same letter, and we never dressed them alike. The only thing we did which I believe was done more for me so I could tell this darling duo apart was dressing Andy  always in blue. Andrew rhymed with blue, so it worked. It should come as no surprise that Andy does not have much of an appreciation for the color blue to this day.

We raised all three of our boys to be independent thinkers, to question and seek answers and understanding, to ask “why” all the time, and to never be satisfied with “that’s the way it has always been done”. We raised our boys to be loving and compassionate, caring and devoted, to always respect others, and especially to always respect women.

Whereas Kyle and Andy have been on this journey for 26 years as their own selves, they also have been, and I always believe will be each others best, most intimate friend to each other. Certainly Amanda might have a say in this with Andy, and she is completely entitled! But in all these 26 years as Kyle and Andy have headed in their own directions, they have also always come back to each other, and to watch the joy and mystery of twins, well Kim and I have been blessed by every moment.

We honor Kyle and Andy on this very special of days. When they came into our lives they enriched us and touched in ways unimaginable. What a gift it is to be a parent, a Dad, and I have been blessed with this threefold.

Happy Birthday K & A! Keep the journey alive! Both of you, along with your brother Josh make this world a better place every day!

Our deepest of love,
Mom and Dad
