Forks in the Road

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

So writes Robert Frost in "The Road Not Taken".

Turning points. "Tipping points". Forks in the road. The moments in time when faced with a decision, we opt for the one which causes us to shudder because of uncertainty. The decision made to go just a bit further around the bend to see what is on the other side.

The point being, what adds that extra dash of spice to each and every breath taken? Well certainly taking "the one less traveled" can and will make "all the difference".

I read an essay by Robert Fulghum, ON BEING RICH. Written in the third person, Fulghum writes about the life sustaining qualities of water.

Water. Something so basic, so available, at least in my part of the world. Yet like so many things we seem to have an over-abundance of, water is a basis for survival. Without it we die. With it we are extremely rich.

Fulghum writes in the last paragraph of his essay,

"I've written this in third person because it is useful sometimes to stand outside yourself and observe what you do and what you think and need.
To compare notes with your past self and past circumstances.
To recall life is always a near death experience.
To consider your life is always with the rest of the world's people.
And to recognize that it is the most ordinary things that make you rich.
Like water"

Like water which can be assumed we have an ever-flowing supply of, or air, always being clean enough to fill our lungs, life is something we all feel we have an over-abundance of. Yet in the truest sense, life is the ultimate "here today, gone tomorrow".

So enjoy it...LIFE! Look for those bends in the road, "the one less traveled". Dare to be different! Dare to be you! Like having water, you will be extremely rich!
